Henry the Flower Collector

Every story needs a good beginninghis is the story of Henry the duck, but it’s a different Henry to the Henry you might know.  Because, not everybody knows this, but just about every duck is called Henry!

And this Henry loved to collect flowers.

Ever since he’d been small Henry had loved flowers. Big flowers, little flowers, long flowers, short flowers, Henry loved them all and whenever he discovered a new flower, he’d take it home for his collection.

Henry had flowers of every colour imaginable and his duck hole looked a bit like the inside of a rainbow with all the flowers stuck up on the walls.

Most of the other ducks thought Henry was a little crazy. They couldn’t understand why someone would want a dry flower that didn’t smell anymore, when you only had to fly across the lake and you could see (and smell) all kinds of flowers.

Henry Makes His Bed

Every story needs a good beginninghis is the story of Henry the duck, but it’s a different Henry to the Henry you might know.  Because, not everybody knows this, but just about every duck is called Henry!

And this Henry didn’t like sleeping on the cold, hard, ground.

When Henry was a baby he’d gotten very used to sleeping on top of his mother. Henry’s mother never complained and Henry found her feathers so soft and snuggly that he would fall asleep immediately.

As Henry got older he got so used to sleeping on his mother that he simply couldn’t sleep anywhere else. Eventually though, Henry got too big and too heavy to be able to sleep on his mother any longer. He still tried to of course, but his mother kept knocking him off saying she couldn’t breathe properly with him squashing her.

Henry Visits China

Every story needs a good beginninghis is the story of Henry the duck, but it’s a different Henry to the Henry you might know.  Because, not everybody knows this, but just about every duck is called Henry!

And this Henry loved to travel.  In fact, he’d flown all over the world, making new friends and discovering lots of interesting places.  This year, Henry had decided to visit China and he was having a wonderful time.

Everywhere Henry went he saw the most beautiful scenery. China had some of the best lakes that Henry had ever seen.  All of the lakes and ponds were surrounded by lovely parks with miniature trees and nicely shaped bushes.  The water in the lakes was filled with all kinds of colourful fish.  Even the people doing their slow exercises in the parks seemed so peaceful and happy.  Henry thought that he could happily stay in China and live there for the rest of his life.

Henry the Complainer

Every story needs a good beginninghis is the story of Henry the duck, but it’s a different Henry to the Henry you might know.  Because, not everybody knows this, but just about every duck is called Henry!

And this Henry never seemed to be happy.   He was always complaining about something and all of the other ducks were sick of it.

Henry lived in a park called ‘Central Park’, in New York City (America), but despite living in such a beautiful place, Henry was always complaining.   Henry complained about the animals from the Zoo keeping him awake at night.   He complained about the pond they lived on and how it was too small or too cold or too muddy or too smelly.   Henry complained that there were too many people and not enough food and, well, he complained about pretty much everything

Henry Learns to Swim

Every story needs a good beginninghis is the story of Henry the duck, but it’s a different Henry to the Henry you might know.  Because, not everybody knows this, but just about every duck is called Henry!

And this Henry couldn’t swim.

Henry had hatched on a farm  in the middle of a drought when the dam was completely dry. The only water that Henry and his family had seen for years was the water the farmer left them each morning in a dog bowl. It was enough for drinking but not for swimming.

Henry Gets Stuck

Every story needs a good beginninghis is the story of Henry the duck, but it’s a different Henry to the Henry you might know.  Because, not everybody knows this, but just about every duck is called Henry!

And this Henry loved mice. Well, not all mice but he was very good friends with one mouse in particular, a field mouse whose name was Timmy.

In fact, Henry and Timmy were best friends and had been ever since they were little. Henry and Timmy lived right next to each other and had been playing together since the time they were born. Everywhere Henry went, Timmy was never far behind and they played from the time the sun came up until it was dark.

Henry Visits Antarctica

Every story needs a good beginninghis is the story of Henry the duck, but it’s a different Henry to the Henry you might know.   Because, not everybody knows this, but just about every duck is called Henry!

And this Henry liked to have time alone.   It wasn’t that he didn’t like other ducks, he just really enjoyed the peace and quiet of being alone.

Henry had often daydreamed about visiting Antarctica because he was sure that he’d get lots of time to himself in such a remote place.   The problem was, ducks weren’t made for cold weather.   Henry hadn’t ever seen snow because every year he flew north to get away from the cold and Antarctica was a far colder place than Tasmania (where Henry lived).   So you can imagine Henry’s delight when he was walking through the park one day and found a very thick, woolly coat lying on the ground.

Henry Heads the Wrong Way

Every story needs a good beginninghis is the story of Henry the duck, but it’s a different Henry to the Henry you might know.   Because, not everybody knows this, but just about every duck is called Henry!

And this Henry lived in Australia.

Henry was very excited because it was almost winter and all the ducks were getting ready to fly somewhere warmer.   It was going to be Henry’s first long flight and he couldn’t wait to get going.   Henry already knew about ducks flying south for the winter, because he’d watched a television show about it once.   There was a shop near the fountain Henry loved to play in that had Televisions in its front window and one time, Henry had watched a show all about ducks.   Henry had learned all sorts of things from the show, things that even he hadn’t known and he was a duck.

Henry Saves the Queen

Every story needs a good beginninghis is the story of Henry the duck, but it’s a different Henry to the Henry you might know.  Because, not everybody knows this, but just about every duck is called Henry!

And this Henry lived right next to a very beautiful palace.

Henry knew that inside the palace walls, was a magnificent lake, surrounded by lovely gardens.  The trouble was there were signs all around the lake which said “No Ducks Allowed.”

If a duck pretended they couldn’t read the signs and landed on the lake, they were quickly caught and thrown out of the grounds.  So Henry had never ever landed on the lake.

Delays

Sorry for the delay in stories this week, I’ve had too many evening meetings to be able to write any more stories (well I’ve done one but it’s in it’s 4th draft and still not ready to post – I may need to leave it and come back to it). I think the next post will likely be on Sunday afternoon.
